Delta Milwaukee Band Saw Serial Numbers
The band saw is really not in that bad a shape. Is it critical that I fully remove all the rust and repaint or can I do I general cleaning and run the saw? -- ---Howard, Amesbury MA. I just did a general cleaning/rust removal and started using the saw when I got mine. I did coat the two wheel covers also with a coat of paste wax because there are a lot of nicks in the paint that had rusted. I had cleaned the rust from the nicks, but didn’t want it to reappear. Tearing it down and repainting was most definitely out of the question for me at the time, and still will be for a while.
Mine was in great, running condition, but I did do some upgrades that really made this saw sing. Your saw, while a handful of years newer, is the same saw. Here’s what I did: -Cleaned up the little bit of rust that was on it; coated table surface with paste wax -New tires (I went with Carter Urethane tires) -Cool Blocks guide blocks -Link belt from Harbor Freight; this reduced a LOT of vibration it had, especially after making sure the pullies were lined up properly.
I will never punish them like they used to be so might carry out some of this type of work in the future. Got to finish the house and build a new workshop first though. So it might be a few years!!! Still, good to see how the care is taken. The short answer is, NO!;) I already promised my buddy that I would do his Walker Turner 16' Metal/Wood Saw next. My advise on the Bridgeport is to take lots of pictures for reference when re-assembling. I did a couple at the helicopter company that were flood damaged in 1993.
Search a privately operated database of serial numbers. If a Delta technician is unable to help you, there are several websites, such as Old Wood-Working Machines, that maintain an extensive listing of Delta serial numbers categorized by year.
Still smells like goat right now. But I'll fix that this weekend. Anyway it's in decent shape but does need a few parts. Specifically the pully #136 or part 41-144. Probably the bearings and spacers that go along it too. Where can I get parts?
I need to replace the bearings and there is a key in the shaft on the wheel side which has to be removed to pull the shaft. I have not been able to budge it. Many thanks Dean. The parts are die cast Zamack (a zinc/aluminum alloy) and the original paint was peeling off due to the lack of surface prep. I simply wire brushed the old paint off, masked off any moving surfaces and degree scale then prepped with an ultra fine Scotch Brite pad (gray pad). Here is a trick! I keep a package of bamboo skewers around the shop to use as painting and hand polishing sticks.

One of the nice things about having multiple income streams is the ability to refuse work that does not interest me or that I do not have confidence in. Basically I adopted a philosophy of 'It ain't fun, I ain't doing it!' Or to quote an acquaintance 'Life is too short to struggle needlessly.' In today's installment of 'As The Nut Turns': I mentioned using a vibratory and walnut hull to clean hardware in an earlier post. I have a couple of small vibratory cleaners (commonly used to clean ammunition brass before reloading) that I picked up at an estate sale for a couple of dollars each.
Serial number is Z 736, Delta Rockwell Manufacturing Co., other side has a stamp Delta Homecraft, and was made in Milwaukee WisconsinI was thinking that it was made in the 40’s to 50’s. It has been kept inside hence the excellent condition, but my father-in-law was using an old low voltage extension cord for the power supply which caused the motor to stop turning; although this was remedied by switching to regular 110 wire with a light switch for the on/off switch. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Scott -- Scott, Southern Ohio. Forum Topics Your woodworking skills are displayed for several lifetimes in each project.
